Serial Number Timeline

If you have corrections or additions, please feel free to send them to me.

Rolex have never released official data, so dating cases by their serial numbers (stamped between the lugs and inside the case backs) is imprecise. Particularly with transitional models. The same is true for clasp codes.

While sources online often conflict, the book, "The Best of Time Rolex Wrist Watches" by Dowling-Hess is considered authoritative for collectors.

The data used for this chart has been harvested from various online forums. While not authoratitative its probably about as good as you'll find.
